John Free has been designing and delivering enterprise scale solutions to a global client base for more than 25 years. John’s career has been evenly divided between software startups and boutique consultancies so he deeply understands what it takes to be successful in each of these contexts.

At big river technologies, John’s focus is on building a close-knit family of software delivery experts that are passionate about teamwork, technology, innovation, critical thinking, problem solving and most importantly, enabling client success.

I have been responsible for professional service delivery, led operations and had overall P&L accountability. I enjoy working with clients and organizations across the globe and am excited to build and grow high performing agile teams. Having held delivery leadership positions in top consulting firms and agencies, my passion is to help people and organizations rapidly deliver on business goals in a balanced and sustainable way.
Fiona Cairns
Fiona CairnsHuman Resources and Recruitment Specialist
Fiona Cairns has over 15 years of human resources experience in a variety of industries in both Canada and Scotland. She has expertise in talent acquisition, compensation, change management and training. Fiona is an excellent business partner who works effectively with all levels of staff to provide coaching and counselling in diverse areas to ensure business goals are achieved. Before joining big river, Fiona spent almost a decade as HR Business Partner at Assurant Solutions. Fiona supports both the techniology and business development teams. She regularly collaborats with software developers, project managers and business & systems analysts to provide proactive human resources advice and services. Across her experiences, Fiona builds and maintains strong working relationships both globally and locally with internal and external partners to ensure an inclusive and collaborative culture.

Fiona is a post-graduate of the Human Resources Management program at Conestoga College and received her under-graduate degree from the University of Waterloo with a specialization in Social Development Studies. She is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) with the Human Resources Professional Association.

Lubo Cipin
Lubo CipinPractice Lead - Learning And Development
Lubo Cipin has over 25 years of IT experience, including 7 years in technical learning and development. He has trained over 2,400 professionals, including 1,600 IT specialists, throughout North America and in the Netherlands, in English, French and Dutch. He has received top-notch evaluations from students and education awards in facilitation, communication and leadership. Lubo has also worked in technical business analysis, technical writing, database development and administration, software testing and computational linguistics, holding positions at Scotiabank, Computer Talk, Sybase, Portfolio Analytics, Algorithmics, the University of Toronto Dictionary of Old English Project, and Educational Software Products.

Lubo holds a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto with majors in computer science, mathematics and linguistics. He has continuously been engaged in activities in the arts and humanities, technology and mathematics education. Lubo is a fine arts photographer. He has obtained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation.

Richard Hone
Richard HoneTechnical Specialist
Richard Hone has two and a half decades of experience across a wide variety of organizations taking ideas from conception, development through to commercialization, in capacities from project manager, head of research, chief engineer and CEO. He served as Manager Product Development for Corel Corporation, overseeing many divisions of the company. Mr. Hone was instrumental in creating programs within these organizations to maximize SR&ED tax credits. He has extensive background in senior research roles at the university graduate level with an emphasis on grant funding from NSERC, NRC, and Community Futures Business Development Bank. Mr. Hone has attracted funding for many projects to support hiring recent graduates and students from Ontario Talent Access Programs, MITACS Accelerate, Connect Canada, OCE Voucher programs, IRAP Youth Employment Strategy and others.

Mr. Hone graduated with a B.Sc.(Honours) from Queens University, completing a double major in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. He also holds a M.Eng. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as a number of Canadian, US and World-wide patents.
